As of today, August 23rd, 2021, The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine gets full approval from the FDA. No longer will we only have vaccines that have emergency FDA which is HUGE news in the public health field. This basically ensures that we the people can feel safe about this vaccine and its efficacy and usefulness against this disease.
But I don’t think much is going to change.
For the longest time, all over my Instagram and Facebook were people who said that they didn’t want an experimental liquid injected into their body. With the only vaccines having emergency FDA approval, they said that they were totally right in being cautious about getting the vaccine. But now, theoretically, that fear should be eliminated right? We can expect these people to start getting their first doses right?
WRONG.
All of a sudden today, I start seeing these same people talk about how of course a government agency would give this vaccine full approval and that this was too fast to get approval like this.
And it’s like if you don’t want to get the vaccine just don’t get it. Stop trying to give scientific or health reasons for you just not wanting it. Like all this shows to me is that you don’t trust the government at all and that I should avoid you in talking about politics. I understand that you might want to save face in front of your internet connections, but all this does is lead to people thinking they can convince you that it is safe for your body and this timeline is normal when you actually just don’t want it and you can’t be swayed. Cause for months now the main excuse I’ve heard is how it’s only emergency approval, but now that it’s gone, new excuses have popped up.
SO WHAT DO YOU WANT? I don’t understand. So many of these people I know have their other vaccinations like their chickenpox or MMR vaccines. These are all things that we are required to get for health reasons but also for education requirements. I don’t understand what makes this so different. Do you really distrust the government so much you think they’re actively trying to harm you all the time? Don’t answer, I know the answer. And I understand the government has done bad things and still keeps things from us, but at its core, for this premise, I do believe the US government is trying to help us with this vaccine.
This pandemic is real. There are so many people who have died or been hospitalized from COVID-19. The ICU beds in my hometown are all full to the point where a new patient has to be transported to Wyoming because that was the nearest place with a free bed. It shouldn’t take you getting it and being near death to have you learn empathy for others in these times. There are countless resources explaining how this vaccine works and why it’s safe despite how fast it was created and approved. But it’s not worth talking about it when all I get in response is that these resources are bad or the government is controlling the media so of course, it says it’ll work.
