My Favorite Book

This post is rushed because I’m at an airport and I board and takeoff soon lmao oops.

But even with that, I think something I want to talk about is my favorite book. I’m curious as to what y’all think it would be or what it would be about.

I’m not going to drag it on like all those goddamn recipe blogs do before they give you what you want. My favorite book is “The Phantom Tollbooth” by Norton Juster.

Yes, it is a kids’ book. I first read this book when I was in fifth grade. But from the moment I read it, I really did fall in love with it. In fact, most of my favorite books are children’s books so interpret that as you will HAHA. But The Phantom Tollbooth, especially for the age it’s meant for, is truly so special.

In essence, it’s about a boy named Milo and he thinks school and the world are just so boring. He seems to find no satisfaction in anything he learns or hears or sees. And then one day, he gets transported to a fantasy land full of wonders and mysteries.

AND IT’S SO CUTE AND FUNNY

The whole book is just full of nice witty lines and cute puns. The dog with a clock Milo meets is called the Watchdog (haha get it?) and the whole book is like that. I think my own sense of humor is derived from this very book and I love it.

And at its essence, the book is talking about how education can be so fun and so eye-opening. Milo learns about the power of words and numbers. He learns about music and colors and noises and all they have to offer. It’s just so absolutely beautiful. Because as fantasy this world is, Milo learns to love the mundane. He learns to love hearing the birds chirping or learning new words. It’s just such a wonderful book that has such a great message at its core and I think no matter how old you are, it’s worth reading. I think there’s something in it for everyone and it will cause you to think and to laugh and to appreciate the world around you. So often we get caught up in our own little world and we kind of just shut ourselves in. Our own country tends to shut us off from news and events from other places. But I think it’s worth pushing that boundary between what we know and what we appreciate. I think to just learn is something that can be so enjoyable and so life-giving, we just have a system that removed that joy from it.

So please! Go read it! Borrow my copy if you want, but only after I come back and read it on my flight.
