PLEASE

Growing up in Eastern Washington, I met a lot of people who have beliefs that differ from my current ones. One of those differing beliefs is about the Covid-19 vaccine.

In April 2021, I received both doses of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine. In fact, in that time frame, a good amount of my friends and peers also got their own Covid vaccines. But a good amount of people that I know also did not get the vaccines when they became available to them, and still haven’t to this day.

THIS. IS. SO. FRUSTRATING.

It’s so maddening that I barely can write coherent sentences and cohesive paragraphs because I just don’t understand. I don’t understand why it is so hard to find empathy for the people around you. This is a free vaccine in a country where we have enough for everyone. And yet, instead of people rushing to get it, people are instead mad at it and refusing to even consider it.

But how privileged can we be?! People from struggling countries like Indonesia are literally coming to America on “vaccine tours” just so they can receive these small jabs of what could be life-saving medicine. People are spending so much money on this while we can have it FOR FREE. HOLY SHIT PLEASE. WHAT DOES IT TAKE?

Recently someone on my Facebook feed made a comment about not getting vaccinated. This is what they said:

“It isn’t my fault people died because I am cautious of what gets put into my body lol”

…HUH???

Please just end me now. When it comes to vaccination rates and eradicating diseases, it’s so much more than just me or you or any single individual. It’s about us as a collective. If you don’t want the vaccine, I hope you just stay in your room for maybe the rest of your life because your unvaccinated self poses a risk for so many other people. I don’t care if you’re young and healthy, this isn’t about you anymore. This is about the children and elderly people you see when you go out whether it be for grocery shopping or to just hang out with people. This is about how much damage your ignorant self can do to the people around you even if you don’t care about them. Other diseases like polio or smallpox were eradicated in this country because AS A WHOLE COUNTRY, we got vaccinated. It wasn’t just a few people that got it and we called it good. No, for things like that we have to come together, care for the people around us, and do what I believe should be a civic duty and get vaccinated. So by refusing this vaccine, I would like to say it partially is your fault, but it’s not like you’d listen to me since this is apparently “not open for debate”.

This post quality is truly getting worse and worse as I keep writing this because I genuinely am so heated about this issue. All vaccines are important. The initial study showing they caused autism was debunked and has been so many times. I don’t understand why people would be thinking our entire medical system and government is trying to harm us during a pandemic with this vaccine? Like there is nothing I can say or do that would be new from what is already said. There are so many resources talking about the potential reasons for not getting vaccinated and why they’re not really substantial excuses. There are so many people who are willing to help you through this process.

I’m just here to rant because I’m so goddamn tired and frustrated of people living in their own entitled little worlds without a care for those struggling around them. Like it really shouldn’t take people getting Covid-19 and almost dying for them to turn around and start promoting the vaccine. Like cool, but also why so late? Why did it have to take you personally to experience this for you to finally believe this is a real thing? Do you really believe your voice and your experience is the only one that matters and counts in this world? Because that’s what it sounds like and I’m so tired of it.

So what does it take? What do you need to see or hear to believe that we are truly trying to help you? Please, I want to know. Please. PLEASE.

PLEASE
